Oakland East
Funded by a grant from the UPS Foundation, SeniorNet opened two fully-funded Learning Centers that provide free computer access and education to low-income older adults. The first of these Centers opened in 2006 in Oakland, California at the Eastmont Town Center.
SeniorNet provides adults 50+ access to and education about computer technology and the Internet to enhance their lives and enable them to share their knowledge and wisdom.
SeniorNet is an international non-profit organization designed to teach and support seniors to use computers and the Internet. It is a program for Seniors, taught by Seniors, in small classes, at an appropriate pace. More than 3,500 people work throughout SeniorNet Learning Centers, as volunteer instructors, coaches, administrators, and web site discussion leaders, community supporters and technicians. SeniorNet would not exist without this network of volunteers who dedicate countless hours to helping others learn to use computers and the Internet. All our instructors and coaches are Seniors just like the students ... they are all volunteers, some who have completed and learned from the program itself.
