Last year, in the midst of a national economic crisis with major corporations going bankrupt, the healthcare issue, and unemployment reaching 10%, we stuck with our plan of providing tangible value.  Despite this turmoil and uncertainly we were able to better our day to day operations, deliver a higher level of support to centers and provide more benefits to our members.

SeniorNet continues to differentiate itself from other organizations by having a dual focus.  We strive to make centers stronger and provide "value-add benefits" to our members.

Communications:

* Monthly newsletters are distributed to all members, volunteers, stakeholders, and  sponsors in our data base.  The "center of the month" section was created to enable the leadership to communicate with our entire community and their specific stakeholders.  Centers distinguished themselves by writing compelling articles which included best practices, and activities that make them successful.

* Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) -- The intent of this document is to increase efficiency between the center and headquarters by outlining all of the processes and providing points of contact and escalation.  The SOP is updated real-time and sent to center leaders for distribution.

* Circle of Friends (COF) -- This forum was created to ensure a direct channel of communications from Headquarters Staff and Board of Directors - to center leaders.  Teams responsible for public relations and advertising were added to broaden the communications.  Center leaders are encouraged to communicate and share with each other using the COF.

26 centers hosted a "Windows Launch 7 House Party" either at their center or home
15 centers are part of the Microsoft pilot -- Windows 7

* AT&T:
27 centers have signed up for the "one-on-one coaching" on wireless technology, this has proven to be a great opportunity for centers to increase their membership, their volunteer base, and provide current membership a value add.

* Tech Soup:
267 orders were placed during FY09 -- with approximately $7K spent, and with a savings of more than $153K.

* Upgraded website to improve efficiency
Enhanced membership benefits

Enabled "join" button -- along with enhanced process making it easier for those wishing to become a member

Curriculum:

* New and revised curriculum

Two four lesson courses for Word 2007
An eight lesson course for Excel
An eight lesson course for Photoshop Elements 7
Learning Center developed courses for Legacy Family Tree and Family Tree Maker 2009

As you can see 2009 was an amazing year for accomplishments and getting things done.  We have exciting plans for 2010 that include adding discussion groups, additional software and an offer to host center websites.  These detailed plans will be shared in our monthly SeniorNet newsletters.  We will build on 2009 with a pragmatic leadership agenda -- showing progress and growth.
