Gwinnett, Georgia Learning Center Receives 2007 Acts of Caring Award
March 22, 2007
Congratulations to the Gwinnett SeniorNet Learning Center in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Their Learning Center was selected as a winner in the 2007 Acts of Caring Awards Program! The Acts of Caring Awards recognize the top county volunteer programs in the country. The awards program is carried out by the National Association of Counties (NACo) in partnership with Freddie Mac.
The Gwinnett SeniorNet Learning Center was chosen after a careful review by judges from the Points of Light Foundation, the American Red Cross, America’s Promise—the Alliance for Youth, the Child Welfare League of America and the National Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government.
Nancy Pluth, coordinator of the Gwinnett Learning Center will be accepting the award, along with long-time volunteer, Norman Briggs, and a representative from Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Department. The awards will be given at a breakfast ceremony on Thursday, April 26th on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The Gwinnett leadership is planning to encourage their two Georgia U.S. Senators and John Linder, from U.S. House of Representatives, who are invited to this breakfast ceremony, to attend the event in hopes of increasing governmental awareness of the SeniorNet program.
The Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia is also hosting an Appreciation Event for the Gwinnett Learning Center on April 17th where even more volunteers will be in attendance. They also will very likely be awarding grant funding to the Learning Center at that time.
When asked about her thoughts on the award coordinator Nancy Pluth commented, "The Acts of Caring award belongs to our members. They have all worked so hard over the years to bring this Learning Center to the level of success and excellence it now enjoys. I am so proud to be a part of this group."
Again, congratulations for winning the prestigious Acts of Caring Award, and thank you to everyone at the Gwinnett Learning Center for your outstanding contributions to the SeniorNet organization!
