Huntington SeniorNet Team
On May 2, 2014, SeniorNet at FSL, Long Island held a celebratory open house at the Harborfields Public Library to congratulate those volunteers who developed training curricula that led to winning the national SeniorNet competition. The contest was fierce and the competitors were many for the few prize-winning spots. Once again, SeniorNet at FSL, L.I. placed itself on the map of innovators and achievers.

SeniorNet Feast

As more than 100 SeniorNet volunteers, students and invited guests entered, they were delighted to find a lavish "Viennese Table" with desserts baked from SeniorNet's "Sweet and Short" cookbook recipes. Slava Vero, SeniorNet Director, welcomed everyone on behalf of Leslie Smith, SeniorNet's National Board of Directors and Chairperson. She then introduced the winning team: Bill Baker, Diane Asser, Richie Levitan, Bob Kohler and Moss Rawn. Diane Asser, who took the lead in compiling the winning entry, made a short presentation. Slava introduced the invited guests and then conducted the award ceremony, after which some guests made congratulatory remarks. Later Jim Burke, SeniorNet Lab Co-Coordinator made a short demonstration of Windows 8.1.1, followed by the distribution of prizes.

  • Huntington SeniorNet Team Among the invited guests was Councilwoman Susan Berland, a great supporter for over 10 years, who presented Certificates of Appreciation to each contest contributor. In addition, she presented a proclamation to the winning learning center signed by Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone, Councilmen Mark Cuthbertson and Eugene Cook as well as Councilwomen Tracie Edwards and Susan Berland.
  • Bob Keller, President of the nationalgrid Foundation expressed his congratulations on behalf of the nationalgrid Board of Directors and promised continued support.
  • Barbara Hanna, representing 12th District Assemblyman Andrew P. Raia, presented SeniorNet with the Assemblyman Proclamation, congratulating the winning learning center.
  • Other invited guests included Robyn Berger Gaston, FSL division director and Mark Malizia representing 18th District Legislator William. R. Spencer. We also welcomed Mary D'Agostino, recreation coordinator for the section 8 housing at Paumanack Village and Linda Levine, senior aide to Councilwoman Susan Berland. If we missed any guests, please accept our apologies.

SeniorNet National sponsored this successful Open House and Microsoft provided prizes that included Microsoft's Windows 8 book Quick and Easy plus coupons for a free hour of instruction at the Microsoft store.

A great job by the Huntington team!
