Anne Tilly: Bread Upon the Waters Print E-mail
by Lois Dean, Roswell, Georgia SeniorNet Learning Center

The time and energy she gave as a volunteer brought an unexpected reward for Anne Tilly of Roswell, when she was looking for new employment recently. “My experience at the Roswell SeniorNet Learning Center led directly to qualifying me for the job I applied for,” Ms Tilly said.

Volunteers at the Roswell SeniorNet Learning Center, located in the City of Roswell Adult Recreation Center on Grimes Bridge Road, teach computer skills to people age 50 and over. As a coach and instructor at the Learning Center, Ms Tilly accumulated hours of teaching experience, learned computer skills working with the Microsoft Works and Word classes, developed curriculum, and assisted development and revision of course manuals used by students. These skills met the requirements for a job as an education coordinator at UHS-Pruitt corporation in Norcross, and she was hired.

The moral of this story: contributing time as a volunteer may not only provide the satisfaction of doing something to help others, it also may pay off in a practical way.
