About The Volunteer Center Recognition Celebration
The Volunteer Center Recognition Celebration recognized outstanding volunteer service in our community so that others may hear their stories and also be inspired to volunteer. Barack Obama’s call to service and the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act are evidence of our nation’s focus on the importance of volunteerism. "Your own story and the American story are not separate -- they are shared. And they will both be enriched if we stand up together, and answer a new call to service to meet the challenges of our new century,” says President Barack Obama. The event was planned to coincide with National Volunteer Week, April 19-25, which honors individuals, groups, and organizations that have dedicated themselves to serving their community. Guests enjoyed a reception, silent auction, a gourmet dinner from Carrabba’s Italian Grill, and music performed by pianist John Troutman.
