Quinault Indian Nation

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to see our people use computers to enhance their quality of life. We also want to thank the volunteer tutors who give selflessly of their time to teach our tribe members – young and old. What the online world has to offer will be enlightening” said Fawn Sharp, chief of the Quinault Indian Nation.

What is social media?

You hear about social media just about everywhere you go - there's no escaping it! And, believe it or not, it's not just for kids anymore. Golden Girl Betty White re-launched her career using Facebook, Jerry Mathers, aka "The Beaver," is tweeting about how to live a longer and healthier life (even with diabetes), and an elderly couple's "Webcam 101" video goes viral on YouTube, making them instant Internet sensations.

The numbers don't lie. According to Pew Internet & American Life Project, social media use among Internet users ages 50 and older has nearly doubled - from 22% to 42% over the past year. Half (47%) of Internet users ages 50-64 and 26% users age 65 and older now use social media.

Eric Vero

It is with great sorrow that I have to inform you that my husband Eric Vero passed away on Tuesday 1/3/12. Eric Vero of Northport, NY was the devoted husband of Slava, SeniorNet National Board member. He was the cherished father of Rhoda, father–in-law to William and loving grandfather of Alexander.  In his long career he achieved many accomplishments. As an 18 year old he volunteered to serve in the United States Army in the 84th Infantry and was a decorated serviceman of the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return, Eric received his education under the GI Bill and had had a brilliant career in the Oil Industry working for Chevron and Texaco. Upon his retirement he joined SeniorNet as a volunteer and founding member of SeniorNet at FSL, Huntington, Long Island.  He served as chairman of the lab committee, teacher and coach; he also started and developed the computer refurbishment program in conjunction with National Grid Foundation. Thanks to his contribution SeniorNet at FSL Huntington, Long Island received many awards and proclamations and was named the number one learning center in the country.
