SENIORNET NEEDS YOUR HELP

SeniorNet Members and Supporters

As SeniorNet reaches the end of our 26th year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over the past years. It is only with help from people like you that SeniorNet has been able to fulfill our mission (enhancing the lives of older adults and those with a need of computer training and technology education).

Look at some of what we accomplished in 2012:

  • We opened new centers
    • Quinault Indian Reservation, Learning Center, WA
    • Second Union Baptist Church, Learning Center, Washington D.C.
    • An International Research Center for product and services for those "50 years old and better", Brooklyn, New York.
  • SeniorNet Social Media was created to extend education and awareness
    • Our blog:  Social Media Scoop for Seniors
    • SeniorNet on Facebook
    • SeniorNet on Twitter
  • We launched new partnerships
    • GrandMentor Program, giving members the opportunity to volunteer by reading to underserved elementary school children via Skype.
    • Vistaprint, providing logo'd marketing collateral to SeniorNet Centers to increase their awareness in their local communities.
  • New Membership benefits/discounts with more new partners  ( Holiday Membership Benefits )
    • Telikin, all-in-one, easy-to-use touchscreen computers designed with seniors in mind offers significant product discounts to our entire membership. The Telikin has been piloted in centers with seniors that are impaired and the feedback has been fantastic.
    • Clarity (division of Plantronics), provided new amplified cellphones designed uniquely for seniors to SeniorNet leaders and is offering holiday discounts to SeniorNet
    • Pearson QUE Publishing, one of the largest computer book publishers in the world, offers special discounts and tutorial reference products to our centers and members.

As you know, the world is becoming increasingly connected through the internet, and it is more important than ever before for seniors to know essential computer skills. To this point – with the support of our strategic partners, we were able to provide the latest Microsoft and Adobe software to our centers, as well as SeniorNet‘s user-friendly curriculum (student instruction) for all ages.

We know you receive many requests for donations, and we know your money is important to you. Please take a moment to consider helping us to make a difference.

Please know that any contribution from you, large or small, will go a long way empowering seniors and those that need new technology skills.

Go to www.SeniorNet.org and click on Donate Today!

Or mail your check/money order to:
SeniorNet
12801 Worldgate Drive
Suite 500
Herndon, VA 20170

Remember, SeniorNet is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and any donation you make is fully tax-deductible!

We have a lot planned for 2013 and hope you will continue supporting SeniorNet‘s mission. Thank you again for your loyalty and dedication over the past years.
Sincerely,

Leslie M. Smith
SeniorNet Chairman

Keeping Seniors Safe...

Book-cover

Did you know that older adults and seniors are disproportionately targeted by scam artists? Whether it’s a phone call, an email, an ad, a fax, or a text message, con artists today utilize all of the outlets the 21st century offers to perpetrate fraud against us. And, con artists count on older adults to be uninformed or naïve, making for an easy target. Don’t give them the satisfaction of being right.

Letter from the Founder of
Milestone and Good News Planet Corporation

Paul Sladkus

Milestone and Good News Planet Corporation is very honored to announce a new partnership with SeniorNet.

For the last 14 years I have served on the board of the oldest and largest leading computer educational program in America. My friend, Mr. Leslie Smith, IBM Senior Executive, Chairman of the Board of Senior Net asked me to serve and I have been proud to do so. Created in 1986, SeniorNet has taught more than a million Boomers and Seniors how to use a computer and new technologies at their learning centers all over the country. Many companies have been behind this outreach, including AT&T, Adobe, Microsoft, IBM, Verizon, Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs and others. One of the latest SeniorNet initiatives is to close the digital divide for the underserved and people that need computer skills.

Our formalized relationship with SeniorNet will allow both organizations to share our content and community with each other worldwide. So please when you receive an email with SeniorNet and/or Good News Planet take a moment to read it. So please share it with those who can benefit. Also, please share it with those who can benefit and remember we all have a boomer or senior in our life and will certainly become a senior or boomer!!!!!!!!!

One of the exciting opportunities with our partnership is that we plan to create a Good News Planet Studio in every SeniorNet Community Center for members of SeniorNet and members of Good News Planet to share their Good News. The community will then post the content onto www.SeniorNet.org and onto GoodNewsPlanet.com. This is Good News for the World!!!

About Milestone Broadcast and Good News Planet: Milestone Broadcast Corporation was created in 1985 by Paul Sladkus after an Award Winning career with CBS and PBS working on shows like (All in the Family, Carol Burnett, Sonny and Cher and Love of Life and on PBS Nature and Brain Series). In 1998 Milestone created www.goodnewsplanet.com to broadcast to the world, life affirming, thought provoking Good News, Entertainment and Events. Positive Content in English and Foreign Languages. The company is headquartered in New York City.

Thank you,

Leslie M. Smith
Board Chairman

We need your help to continue our mission in
providing computer skills to seniors
Dec. 10, 2011
Facts ...
We know that we are living in trying times.
We know that seniors turning 65 this year will begin receiving Social Security via direct deposit.

We know that seniors seek information on:
  • Health issues, complex prescriptions, safe drugs, drug usage
  • Financial matters, insurance, price checking
  • Legal issues, wills, trusts
  • Using social media, chat rooms, blogs, Facebook, sharing wisdom on-line
  • Communicating long distance with distant family and friends

We know that in some cases the trusted family or friend is not always available to
provide the information needed.
We know that skills to access the internet will be crucial to many senior's mere existence.
We know that providing computer skills to seniors will help them lead a more fulfilling life.

Our recent partnership with Prescription Discount Card is an example of SeniorNet making a difference. This discount card is on our website for all seniors and their families to use. Unfortunately, only those with access to technology and who have computer skills will benefit from this discount.

SeniorNet's operation and utility costs continue to rise just like everyone else's. However, we believe that the value we bring to thousands of seniors in local communities and on Indian Reservations across the country is truly worth the effort.

Please take a moment and help us in making a difference. A contribution from you will go directly to supporting and helping seniors become computer literate. You see the issue, you know this is a real problem for many of our seniors -- help us to help others.
