SeniorNet Community,

Some say that senior citizens are traditionally slower to adopt new technologies than younger people.
The good news, according to some studies -- American seniors defined as adults aged 65 years and older are catching up with the rest of the population when it comes to being connected to the Internet and having broadband access.
  • Computer use is especially high among seniors in their late 60s and early 70s and among wealthy seniors. Ninety percent of seniors with an annual household income of at least $75,000 use the Internet, which is a higher rate than the general U.S. population.

The bad news, is that the technological divide among the less affluent senior Americans, disabled, veterans and disenfranchised is growing wider....leaving them without access to government services, health resources, social support, news and information.
  • Only 39 percent of seniors with an annual household income of $30,000 or less use the Internet, and only 25% of this group have a broadband connection at home.

As in the past, you can help us reach folks that need us with your donations. SeniorNet continues as the nation's premier and most respected nonprofit organization specializing in computer and Internet education for adults over 50 and those in need. Since 1986, SeniorNet has empowered more than two million Boomers and Seniors by providing encouragement, lifelong learning opportunities and new worlds to explore via the Internet.
