Subject: Thank you for Train the Trainer Sessions in Intro to Computers 1@SeniorNet, FSL-LI

Good Afternoon, Slava!

On behalf of the Enriching Our Elders Ministry at St. Albans Congregational Church-United Church of Christ in St. Albans, Queens, we want to express our sincere thanks for the invaluable information we received from auditing two classes of Intro to Computers 1 (Basic Processes) at SeniorNet, FSL-LI in Huntington on 04/08 and 04/10/14. We are looking forward to returning the week of April 29, 2014 to audit Intro to Computers 2 (Basic Applications)!

Sitting through the two classes this week and getting lots of "helpful hints" and insights from the instructor and the coaches was exactly the experience we needed to help us begin to understand how to teach the course material to seniors. We were welcomed by all and everyone was very interested in giving us something to help us, not only to get started, but to be successful.

As we explained to you when we met with you and Diane on March 27, 2014, the Enriching Our Elders Ministry of St. Albans Congregational Church, located at 172-17 Linden Blvd, St. Albans, NY 11434 is launching an initiative to teach basic computing skills to seniors in St. Albans and the surrounding communities of SE Queens. The ministry is under the leadership of Rev.

Gular Glover; our pastor is the Rev. Dr. Henry T. Simmons. In the Robert Ross Johnson Family Life Center, located next door to our church, we have a computer classroom equipped with 10 workstations. We have a tech person who maintains both hardware and software. We plan to hold our first classes in May 2014. We will begin with a subset of the Enriching our Elders ministry participants as students to pilot our course. After making any needed adjustments, we will roll the classes out to the community.

Michael and I have volunteered to teach the classes. We have knowledge of computers and use them daily; however, we have no experience teaching computing skills. This is where the experience of SeniorNet personnel comes into play for us. We appreciate the fact that you have offered to train us at no cost, and have been willing to share the expertise of your instructors and coaches with us - just what we hoped for! Watching the interactions in the class gives us a good idea of where our challenges will be, how we might explain different topics and processes and a fairly good idea of what to expect from our students in a classroom setting. It has us really thinking of how we need to approach the class curriculum and what the curriculum should include. At this point, our plan is to go no further than Intro 1 and 2.  As we work through getting these courses up and running, the ministry will plan how and when to expand.

We are thankful for the assistance we have received.  If you need to contact us, you may respond to this email or via "snail mail" to:

Thank you again, Slava!  We look forward to our continued training at the end of the month.

Most sincerely,

Nanette and Mike
